(Bismarck, ND) — A bill that would have given free meals to all North Dakota K through 12 students is dead on the House floor. Yesterday, lawmakers voted 54 to 39 against the measure that would have used 140-million dollars from the state’s general fund to pay for school breakfasts and lunches. Republican Representative Don Vigesaa says the only way to balance the budget is to not fund some of these large asks.
