(Pierre, SD) — The prison funding bill for South Dakota’s proposed new men’s facility is now completely dead. House Bill 10-25 did not advance after a full vote Friday. But there was a motion heard to reconsider the bill yesterday. It was unsuccessful after the State House voted in a 35-35 tie, ultimately killing the measure for good. House Bill 10-25 originally would’ve appropriated money to begin construction on the proposed site in Lincoln County. But the legislation was significantly gutted before final votes and didn’t have enough appeal for a majority. The final result comes after Governor Rhoden was publicly insisting that the prison funding bill needed to be approved over the past few weeks.
