House Lawmakers Kill Free School Lunch Bill

(Bismarck, ND) — A bill that would have provided free school lunch for all North Dakota students has been killed in the state House. The bill was voted down yesterday 54-39. Had it passed, the bill would have allocated 140-million dollars from the general fund to feed students at lunch. Opponents of the bill argue that students who are struggling financially are already being served by existing programs like the federal free and reduced meal program.
