(Kansas City, MO) — The Chiefs are not planning on allowing arguably one of the best offensive linemen in the NFL hit the free agent market this offseason. ESPN is reporting that Kansas City has informed Pro Bowl guard Trey Smith that they will use the franchise tag on him. Smith will return to the team on a one-year deal worth roughly 23.4-million-dollars if he chooses to sign the tag, which would make him the highest-paid guard in football. The 25-year-old has started all 67 games he has played in since being selected in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. In other team news, star tight end Travis Kelce has confirmed a previous report that he plans to return for the 2025 season.
