(Bismarck, ND) — A North Dakota judge is sentencing a Canadian man who is in the country illegally to federal prison. Fifty-year-old Cameron Smith received 25 years in federal prison for shooting and damaging electrical substations in North and South Dakota. U.S. District Judge Daniel Traynor ordered Smith to pay over two-million-dollars in restitution to the electrical companies on top of two consecutive 12-and-a-half-year sentences. Traynor ruled that Smith’s actions met the federal definition of terrorism, resulting in terms that far exceeded guidelines. Smith will be deported back to Canada upon his release.
