(Grand Forks, ND) — A Grand Forks man will be in court today for murder charges tied to a shootout with police. Jeffrey Simpson pled guilty to eight charges mostly involving domestic violence on Monday, but he still awaits trial for four counts of attempted murder of police officers. Grand Forks police responded to a report of a woman allegedly being held hostage by Simpson at his apartment. This resulted in a standoff with the 30-year-old when gunfire was later exchanged. His trial begins today, as he faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
