(Mandan, ND) — A former Greenpeace employee says he encouraged nonviolence during the 2016 protests against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Navajo activist Cy Wagoner took the stand Tuesday at the civil trial in Mandan where the pipeline company is accusing Greenpeace of costing them millions with unlawful protests. Attorneys for Energy Transfer say Greenpeace paid Wagoner to teach protesters to use tactics including vandalism to stop the pipeline. Wagoner refuted the claim on Tuesday, and said he told attendees to follow the leadership of the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe and to conduct themselves respectfully at all times.
