Rapid City’s downtown innovation district

Big plans are in motion for Rapid City’s downtown innovation district, thanks to a federal tech hub strategy grant.

Elevate Rapid City, in partnership with South Dakota Mines and other organizations, is working to transform the area east of 5th Street to the Mines campus into a hub for tech, engineering, and mining firms.

The goal? Attract companies, create jobs, and keep talented graduates in the Black Hills. Mines Director of Industry Engagement Ann Brentlinger says the district will provide internship and career opportunities for students while drawing in high-tech firms.

Brentlinger recently attended a national mining conference to connect with industry leaders and highlight how modern mining is cutting-edge and technology-driven.

With funding in place and industry interest growing, Rapid City’s innovation district is moving closer to reality.
