(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers are approving former Governor Kristi Noem’s suggested increase for education funding. Before Noem left office, she gave the number of one-point-two-five percent in her final budget proposal. That is now official. But many state educators are expressing disappointment since funding was increased by at least four percent or more in each of the last three years prior. The initial hope from advocates was three percent. A spokesperson for the South Dakota Education Association says some schools may have to make cuts to get through these tough financial times.
