(Pierre, SD) — The South Dakota Department of Tourism is looking at recent trends to predict how the rest of this year will play out. Secretary Jim Hagen says 33 percent of travelers are feeling better off now compared to a year ago. Around 60 percent are saying that they are prioritizing travel this year. Hagen also adds the department hasn’t seen much of a negative impact from President Trump’s recent tariffs, but it’s still too early to tell. According to Hagen, tourism is South Dakota’s second-largest industry behind agriculture.
