(St. Paul, MN) — City and team officials are asking the state for 394 million dollars to help fund a 770 million dollar renovation of the Xcel Energy Center, River Centre, and Roy Wilkins Auditorium. St. Paul Mayor Melvin Carter and Minnesota Wild owner Craig Leopold told lawmakers the upgrades are critical to keep the 25-year-old venue competitive. The Wild would contribute 215 million dollars under the proposal. Some lawmakers raised concerns about the high cost amid tight state finances. No votes were taken during Thursday’s committee meeting.
