(Brookings, SD) — A state climatologist is being cautiously optimistic about South Dakota’s drought conditions as summer approaches. Laura Edwards with SDSU Extension says recent rain and snow has come at a good time for the soil to absorb it and to retain the moisture as the rain sinks in and the snow melts. Just a week ago, there was no portion of South Dakota that was not at least in some sort of moderate drought. Edwards adds the next three months will be pivotal for moisture levels heading into summer.
