(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota education officials are weighing a big decision that could significantly impact funding for state schools. The Trump Administration issued a letter to all states saying they may lose federal education funding if schools have any DEI programs. Schools across the country have until April 13th to sign a letter of assurance. Neighboring Minnesota as well as New York have already said they will not comply. South Dakota’s Department of Education Secretary Joseph Graves has not yet responded on how the state will handle the matter.
