First Entry In 2026 Race For Rounds Senate Seat

(Sioux Falls, SD) — The race for South Dakota’s U.S. Senate seat opening in 2026 is now underway. Yesterday, Julian Beaudion of Sioux Falls entered his name as the first official entrant and will be running as a Democrat for the seat currently occupied by Republican Mike Rounds. Rounds’ term ends in January of 2027, but he has yet to announce any plans beyond his current term. Beaudion served as a trooper in the South Dakota Highway Patrol for more than a decade. He now currently runs The HUB SD, and he and his wife also own a Sioux Falls restaurant. Beaudion unsuccessfully ran for a seat on the Sioux Falls City Council in 2020.
