(Washington, D.C.) — South Dakota’s Republican U.S. Senator Mike Rounds is reintroducing his bill to end the U.S. Department of Education. He announced the ‘Returning Education to Our States Act’ is back in play yesterday. The bill was not acted on before the last session of Congress ended, so Rounds made some changes. It would dismantle the department and redistribute funds to other federal agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services and the Department of Treasury. Education decisions would also be returned to the local and state levels. South Dakota Secretary of Education Joseph Graves is giving his support saying he doesn’t see any negative impacts the bill could have on students or the local level if Rounds’ bill passes into law.
