(Helena, MT) — Governor Greg Gianforte is defending his efforts to provide tax relief to Montanans. Gianforte told reporters yesterday he is committed to lowering income and property taxes “meaningfully and permanently” at every income level. He argued the Homestead Rate Cut is still the best option to make that happen, which would lower property taxes by 15 percent for homeowners and 18 percent for small businesses. That bill has passed the House and is currently before a Senate committee.
