(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota Representative Nico Rios has avoided jail time in his drunk driving case because of a plea agreement. He pleaded guilty to operating a vehicle when his blood alcohol content was above the legal limit, and a judge accepted the plea agreement last week. While Rios was given a 10-day jail sentence, all of it was suspended, and he’ll only have to serve a year of unsupervised probation and pay a thousand-dollar fine. State GOP leaders have called for Rios to resign due to resign because of the “verbally abusive, homophobic, racially abusive, and discriminatory” comments he made towards officers during his arrest.
