Montana Supreme Court Allows For Veto Override Of Marijuana Bill

(Helena, MT) — It appears Montana lawmakers will get a chance to override one of Governor Greg Gianforte’s vetoes. The state Supreme Court ruled last week against the governor and Secretary of State Christi Jacobsen, who had appealed to halt the override poll of Senate Bill 442. The poll must now be sent out by tomorrow based on a lower court’s decision despite the high court allowing the governor’s appeal to continue. The legislation, which had the support of most lawmakers, would send one-fifth of recreational marijuana revenue to county road maintenance and another fifth to conservation efforts. Gianforte had vetoed the bill and then transmitted it as the Senate was wrapping up its session.
