(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota is reporting its first human West Nile case of the year. The state’s Department of Health confirmed the case yesterday. A person who is only being identified as over 65-years-old and from Beadle County has the virus. The case is the only case the state is reporting now. The DOH says it expects fewer than 50 human West Nile cases all year. But this is the time of year when West Nile cases start to grow. Human West Nile cases tend to peak at the end of August and beginning of September when people are outside more at dusk.
