(Pierre, SD) — Drought conditions continue to persist across South Dakota, and experts are warning that there doesn’t look to be any major relief in sight. As temperatures swing across the state, from freezing cold to mild like yesterday, a lack of moisture is making it to the ground. It’s usually tough to fight drought conditions anyways during the winter as the frozen ground doesn’t absorb that much. But many parts of South Dakota haven’t seen much snowfall so far this season. No snow means winter crops are at risk by having to face subzero temps through the middle of winter without snow coverage acting as a blanket. However, drought conditions could change for the better if more snow decides to come over the next couple months.
