House Lawmakers Reject “Blue Laws” Bill

(Bismarck, ND) — A bill that would bring back “blue laws” restricting business on Sundays has been soundly rejected by North Dakota lawmakers. House Bill 1150 would require all retail stores in North Dakota to close between midnight and noon on Sundays. The bill’s sponsor, Bismarck Republican Matthew Heilman, said he introduced the bill because he doesn’t think people should have to “jump hurdles” to practice their religion. House lawmakers on Thursday voted 89-4 not to advance the bill.
