Fighting Hawks Break Records at BU and SDSU

BOSTON, Mass./ BROOKINGS, S.D. – North Dakota wrapped up competition at two meets on Saturday and a program record fell in each location, with Jadyn Keeler shattering her own record in Boston and Jory Vasek breaking a school record in Brookings. Over both meets combined on Saturday, the Fighting Hawks set a pair of school records, placed 13 times and posted nine improvements to the UND top-10 lists.

Keeler completely obliterated her own school record in the 5,000 meters in Boston with a personal-best time of 15:28.29 and was the fifth collegiate runner to cross the finish line. It was the second time Keeler has broken the record on the track in Boston, with her originally setting it at 15:57.19 at the 2024 Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener this past December. With her PR, Keeler currently leads the Summit League in the event by over a minute and ranks No. 17 in the NCAA.

Vasek finished fourth in the invitational 400 meters in Brookings and broke the school record with a time of 47.81. He broke the record of Tyler Olson, who set it at 48.07 at the 2015 Big Sky Indoor Championships. Vasek’s time ranks No. 2 in the Summit League and trails the top spot by only 0.11 seconds.

Also in Brookings at the SDSU Indoor Classic, Nadia Evans was the runner-up in the invitational section of the 200 meters with a time of 24.56. Porsha Miles was also in the invitational 200 meters and finished sixth with a time of 25.28. With her PR, Miles is now No. 9 on the UND top-10 list.

Marta Marksa took fourth in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles, clocking a time of 8.69. Malene Kollberg also made it to the finals and was fifth in 8.71, moving her up to No. 4 in school history with her time.

Alimath Salou was the final Hawk to place on the track at South Dakota State and finished fifth in the open section of the 200 meters with a time of 25.87.

Carson Kunz took fourth in the high jump in Brookings with a height of 6-4 3/4 (1.95m).

Justina Esangbedo was fourth in both of the events she competed in. She recorded a toss of 42-4 1/4 (12.91m) in the open section of the shot put and later in the meet had a leap of 37-6 3/4 (11.45m) in the triple jump.

Eucabeth Kivikangas and Anya Williams also finished fifth in their respective field events. Kivikangas placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 17-4 1/4 (5.29m), while Williams took fifth in the high jump with a clearance of 5-2 1/4 (1.58m).

On Saturday morning at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston, Jerzie Finstad competed in the invitational sections of the 200 meters and 400 meters. In the invitational 200 meters, Finstad placed sixth and improved her No. 4 time on the UND top-10 list with a PR of 24.30. Two hours prior, she kicked off the meet in the invitational 400 meters and took seventh in 54.79.

Brooklyn Brouse clocked a time of 2:11.73 in the 800 meters and added her name to the UND top-10 list, recording the No. 5 time in program history.

A trio of Hawks also climbed the UND top-10 list in the 3,000 meters. Eliana Malnourie moved up to No. 3 with a PR of 9:33.15, trailed by Naja Weiler adding her name to the list with the No. 4 time in program history (9:39.05) and Frida Giersdorff recording the No. 8 time in UND history (9:45.52).

North Dakota will close out the regular season hosting the UND Tune-Up on Friday, before traveling back to Brookings for the Summit League Indoor Championships on Feb. 28-March 1.
