(Pierre, SD) — South Dakota lawmakers are taking steps to pause any construction of carbon dioxide pipelines across the state. Yesterday, House lawmakers passed House Bill 10-85 that would initiate a temporary pause CO2 pipeline construction. The final vote was 40-30. According to the bill’s sponsor, Republican Representative Richard Vasgaard, the Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration is rolling out new rules for pipeline safety. House Bill 10-85 would prohibit any pipeline construction until those federal laws are published.
