(Bismarck, ND) — A Bismarck man accused of threatening a man with a knife and assaulting him has been found mentally competent to stand trial. In August, 30-year-old Derek Lafromboise was confronted by a homeowner after he allegedly entered his backyard. Police say he struck the man in the face, made threats against him and his family while brandishing a butcher knife, and then ran off. He was originally ordered held without bond pending a mental evaluation, but was found competent on Thursday. Lafromboise faces charges of terrorizing with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault.
