Bismarck, Mandan Receive Flood Protection Grant

(Bismarck, ND) — Bismarck and Mandan will receive a multi-million-dollar federal grant for flood protection. Recent mapping of the Missouri River indicates that about 750 Bismarck area homes are at risk if a major flood occurs, and the grant aims to reduce that risk. While the project will beneficial in the long run, Justin Messner of the Department of Emergency Services says it would require homeowners with federal loans to buy flood insurance. The two cities will receive the funding in November, and construction in Mandan is scheduled to begin next spring.
