Blue-Green Algae Reported In North Dakota

(Bismarck, ND) — Hazardous blue-green algae has been spotted in nine different bodies of water in North Dakota. The algae grows in stagnant, warm water, and its growth is exacerbated by hot weather. High heat is likely to blame for the recent sightings. Blue-green algae is toxic to both humans and animals, and exposure to it can result in severe sickness. The highest concentrations have been found at Epping-Springbrook Dam, Homme Dam, and Green Lake.
