Capitol Holds Indian Education Summit

(Bismarck, ND) — The first day of the ninth-annual Indian Education Summit was held Thursday at the capitol grounds in Bismarck. The goal of the gathering is to increase awareness of the region’s native heritage among educators and students. Speakers touched on topics such as cultural identity in children, Lakota geography, and the importance of community. Event organizers also mentioned that the graduation rate for indigenous children has gone up since the creation of the yearly event. The summit continues into Friday.
