Carrington Derailment Cleanup Could Take All Summer

(Carrington, ND) — Foster County Emergency Management says cleaning up the site of a fiery train derailment near Carrington could take all summer. It happened on July 5th, and some of the train cars were carrying hazardous materials like anhydrous ammonia. While the cars are off the tracks, they still have to be fully drained of all hazardous substances before they can be removed from the site. Remediation crews will also have to take soil samples to check for contamination, and then remove any contaminated soil.
