Cleanup Underway At Bentonite Spill Near Watford City

(Watford City, ND) — An environmental cleanup is underway near Watford City after 238 barrels of bentonite spilled from a pipeline. Bentonite is a clay material used in construction as a lubricant for drilling. On Wednesday, the Jomax Construction company notified the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality that 238 barrels of bentonite had spilled from a pipeline into a dry creek bed during a drilling project southeast of Watford City. State regulators say inspectors have been to the site and are monitoring the cleanup.
