(Epping, ND) — An Epping man accused of the fatal shooting of a woman last year has been sentenced. Sixty-year-old David Handeland was arrested and charged with murder after he reportedly shot 25-year-old Leslie Lyon, who was found dead in a chair near a trailer home. While Handeland claimed it was an accident and said he was drunk during the incident, Judge Kirsten Sjue called Lyon’s death a “senseless murder.” Handeland has been sentenced to life in prison without parole, with an additional five years for terrorizing.
