(Bismarck, ND) — Former Bismarck Mayor Marlan Haakenson wants a commemorative plaque restored. In 1989, the mayor designated an area along the Missouri River as Centennial Beach, in honor of the state of North Dakota’s 100th anniversary. The Centennial Beach plaque is not in as good of shape as it used to be, and Haakenson is asking the city commission to restore it to its former glory, saying that it’s the right thing to do. While a decision has not yet made, the commissioners have decided to look into options regarding the plaque’s restoration.
