Gov. Burgum Requests Presidential Disaster Declaration for Wildfires

(Bismarck, ND) — Governor Burgum is requesting a presidential major disaster declaration for the fires that scorched parts of northwest North Dakota last month. The governor is looking for help in covering the estimated eight-million-dollar price tag to repair all the damage. The letter to FEMA and President Joe Biden requests a major disaster be declared for Williams and McKenzie counties for October 5th and 6th. The state says 270 livestock were killed by the fire and approximately 14-thousand acres of pasture and rangeland were lost.
