Grand Forks Man Sentenced For Drug Crimes, Assaulting Officer

(Grand Forks, ND) — A Grand Forks man will serve at least 5 years in prison for drug crimes and assaulting a police officer. The charges stem from an incident that happened in January, when authorities say Ernest Leroy Gardner began attacking a police officer who was detaining him while a probation officer searched his apartment. He kicked the officer in the stomach repeatedly, and the search of his apartment turned up meth and fentanyl. Gardner pleaded guilty and was sentenced on Thursday to 20 years in prison, with all but 5 suspended.
