Professional boxer Virgil Hill will be the latest to receive the North Dakota Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Award.
Gov. Burgum’s office made that announcement on Thursday.
Hill was raised in Grand Forks and Williston. He won a silver medal in the middleweight boxing division in the 1984 Olympics. He was a five-time world champion in professional boxing. Hill is also a member of the National Boxing Hall of Fame and the International Boxing Hall of Fame. And in retirement, Hill has been working on philanthropic causes, as well as training young athletes.
The awards will be presented later this year, at a date and location to be announced.
