Jamestown-Based National Guard Unit Recognized

(Jamestown, ND) — A Jamestown-based National Guard unit is being recognized for its year-long service at the U.S.-Mexico border. Around 125 members of the 817th Engineer Company were deployed to the southern border in October 2023 to assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection. They began returning home this past November. A ceremony was held in Jamestown on Sunday to honor the National Guard members. Senator John Hoeven spoke at the ceremony, saying “We are deeply grateful” to the members of the Jamestown unit for protecting the country “and for representing our state with honor and distinction.”
