Man Accused Of Stealing School Fundraiser Money

(Linton, ND) — An instructor is accused of stealing money from a school fundraiser in Linton. Jay Schmaltz, a broadcasting instructor at a local school, had been overseeing a pizza sale fundraiser, and suspicions first arose when the fundraiser went on longer than normal. Discrepancies continued when Schmaltz allegedly turned in over six-thousand dollars worth of checks from the fundraiser, but no cash, and was short of the nearly nine-thousand dollars that should have been raised. The instructor later admitted to pocketing the cash for himself, and is now facing a felony theft charge. He’s next due in court on September 11th.
