Man Deemed Fit To Proceed In Grand Forks Attempted Murder Trial

(Grand Forks, ND) — A Fargo man accused of attempted murder in Grand Forks has been deemed fit to stand trial. Police say back in August, 19-year-old Makai Summers allegedly stabbed Allen Torrey Jr in the chest during an argument. Torrey was severely injured and required surgery, and Summers was arrested and charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault. Summers was committed to the North Dakota State Hospital for evaluation in October due to concerns about his mental health, though he was deemed fit to proceed at a recent hearing. Preliminary hearings and arraignments begin on January 8th.
