(New Salem, ND) — A man is dead following an officer-involved shooting near New Salem. It began early Tuesday afternoon in Bismarck, when officers tried to pull over an aggressive driver, but he sped away and led police on a chase that continued into Morton County. Deputies used spike strips to deflate the suspect’s tires, and he reportedly began shooting at them out of the windows of his car. Authorities say he then got out of his car and continued shooting at the deputies, who returned fire and fatally shot him. He’s been identified as 43-year-old Nicholas Kirby of Dickinson, and the deputies involved in the shooting have been put on administrative leave.
