(New Rockford, ND) — A man has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole for a murder that happened at a bar in New Rockford last year. Investigators say Nicholas Poitra shot and killed Troyal Thumb at Rindy’s Sheyenne Bar because Thumb was annoying him. Poitra then held seven people at gunpoint inside the bar before he fled and spent three days on the run before he was captured. Poitra apologized to Thumb’s family at his sentencing, and he’ll be eligible for parole in 30 years.
