McLean County Sheriff’s Office Implements Grappler System

(McClean County, ND) — The McClean County Sheriff’s Office is implementing a new device to more safely end car chases. It’s called The Grappler, and it consists of a strap that is launched from a police cruiser and wraps around the fleeing car’s wheels. The strap allows the pursuing officer to drag the suspect’s vehicle to a stop, resulting in minimal damage to both. Sheriff J.R. Kerzmann says it could be a game-changer, especially given the increased number of car chases in McClean County. The sheriff’s office is still testing The Grappler to see how it handles in various scenarios and weather conditions, but say they like the results they’re seeing so far.
