Minot City Council Votes Against Funding For Police Recruiting

(Minot, ND) — The Minot City Council voted against a proposal to set aside 100-thousand-dollars for police recruiting at its meeting last night. The plan was struck down amid an ongoing investigation of the city’s police chief. Last week Minot City Manager Harold Stewart placed Chief John Klug on temporary administrative leave. Stewart says concerns were brought to the city regarding the police department, including the chronic turnover of officers. The department is down 25-percent of its force. Some council members disagreed with setting aside funding for police recruitment at this time without a concrete plan and with the police chief on leave. The plan failed by a vote of two-to-five.
