(Grand Forks, ND) — A Grand Forks mother who abandoned her 4-year-old daughter along Interstate 29 last year won’t be going to prison. A judge accepted a plea agreement and sentenced 37-year-old Ashley Johnson to time served. Johnson told the judge she was having mental health issues when she left her daughter by the interstate, and did it because she believed she had to in order to keep her and her daughter safe. She’ll be on supervised probation for two-and-a-half years, and is required to undergo regular mental health treatment.
