(Bismarck, ND) — The state is asking a judge to throw out a lawsuit that challenges North Dakota’s ban on gender-affirming medical care for minors. The state law enacted in 2023 makes it a crime for medical professionals to provide gender-affirming treatment to anyone under the age of 18. The law contains an exemption for minors who’d been getting treatment before it took effect. Special Assistant Attorney General Joseph Quinn argues the plaintiffs don’t have the right to bring the lawsuit — and that the state has presented enough evidence for the judge to rule in its favor. The suit was filed last year by three families with transgender children and a physician.
