(Bismarck, ND) — State lawmakers are hearing testimony on a bill that would require the Ten Commandments to be posted in all of North Dakota’s public classrooms. The House Judiciary Committee discussed the proposed bill yesterday in Bismarck. Supporters of House Bill 1145 include former school principal Pat Dean who says it’s rooted in history and morals — and not in religion “or the changing thereof.” Opponents argue that putting the Ten Commandments in public classrooms violates freedom of religion and that it’s unconstitutional.
