(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota lawmakers have proposed a plan that would double the number of legislative staff within the next five years. The Legislative Council said this request came from legislative leaders after they realized that with term limits coming up, there would be changes in the way the legislature operates. The legislative council is preparing for a busier capitol over the next 5 years, and also greater legislative turnover, which is something new now that term limits are in place. The extra staff could cost the state an extra 3-million dollars a year.
