New Canola Hybrid Showcased

(Rugby, ND) — Crop seed manufacturer BASF has showcased a new hybrid strain of canola at a recent showcase in Rugby. The canola plant is harvested for its seeds used in canola oil production, however the plant’s pods can become brittle and loose their seeds before harvesting occurs. The new hybrid plant which BASF calls inVigor, is bred too keep its pods and seeds intact. Area company manager Robert Bohl says he isn’t aware of any other companies offering canola plants bred to retain their seeds, and hopes the innovation will make growers and farmers successful.
