(Bismarck, ND) — North Dakota senators joined their colleagues in Montana and voted against a Biden Administration decision to lift a ban on beef imports from Paraguay. In a 70 to 25 vote, the Senate passed a resolution allowing Congress to overturn final rules issued by federal agencies. Senator Jon Tester of Montana and Senator Mike Rounds of South Dakota, led the initiative saying Paraguay has a recent history of foot and mouth disease, which could jeopardize the local food supply. North Dakota Senators John Hoeven and Kevin Cramer, as well as Montana Republican Senator Steve Daines, also backed the resolution. The resolution is veto-proof and now moves to the House for their vote.
