(Bismarck, ND) — The man called “the face of the Bismarck National Weather Service” is retiring. This is John Paul “JP” Martin’s final week on the job after more than three decades with the Bismarck National Weather Service office. Martin led the efforts for North Dakota to become only the eighth state to make every county in the state “storm ready.” He has served as the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the past 22 years. Martin has also been in charge of the SKYWARN spotter training talks, be it for school visits or office tours. A native of Pennsylvania, Martin says he plans to remain in North Dakota after retirement.
