Overpass In Grand Forks Remains Closed

(Grand Forks, ND) — The Interstate 29 overpass in Grand Forks remains closed after it buckled from high temperatures over the weekend. City spokesman John Bernstrom says that this type of damage happens when heat causes soil under the road to expand, breaking the pavement above. Road buckling is reportedly most common on days when temperatures are at or near 90 degrees. Additional pavement buckling was also observed on South Washington Street and Belmont Road.
