(Grand Forks, ND) — A new federal program is fast-tracking UND graduates to become air traffic controllers. The FAA announced Monday that UND has been accepted into it’s Enhanced Air Traffic – Collegiate Training Initiative. Before this program, prospective air traffic controllers were required to attend the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City. The new agreement with UND allows gradates to bypass the academy. Senator John Hoeven, who pushed for the program, says it will help address the air traffic controller shortage.
